01.

The Tooth Extraction Process

In our initial consultation, your oral health will be reviewed. Our team will take X-rays to evaluate the affected tooth and the surrounding area. From that information, we will discuss what treatment option is best.

If tooth extraction is the best course—on the day of extraction, we will provide local anesthesia for comfort. Once everything is set, your dentist will remove the affected tooth (or teeth) as efficiently and comfortably as possible.

02.

Following a Tooth Extraction

Following your tooth extraction, we will provide full post-care instructions, including managing pain and reducing any swelling. We will also instruct you on how to care for the extraction site so you can avoid issues like dry socket.

Please follow our instructions carefully to ensure proper healing.

FAQ

  • When is tooth extraction needed?

A tooth extraction is often needed when a tooth is:

    • Severely decayed or damaged beyond repair.
    • Infected and can’t be treated with a root canal.
    • Causing crowding before orthodontic treatment.
    • Impacted, like wisdom teeth.
    • Loosened due to advanced gum disease.
    • Fractured below the gumline or has broken roots.

Extraction is a last resort, and our team will explore all options to save the tooth before recommending removal.

  • How can I prevent dry socket after a tooth extraction?

After a tooth extraction, you can prevent dry socket with these simple tips:

    • Don’t use straws—sucking can dislodge the blood clot.
    • Avoid rinsing or spitting for 24 hours.
    • Follow your dentist’s care instructions closely.
    • Eat soft foods and chew away from the extraction site.
    • Keep the area clean, but be gentle when brushing nearby teeth

  • How quickly will I recover from a tooth extraction?

Tooth extraction recovery usually takes 7 to 10 days for the initial healing. Most people feel significantly better within a few days. In the first few days, swelling and discomfort will peak and begin to go away. In the first week, your soft tissue will mostly be healed, and within several weeks, complete healing of the extraction area will continue.
